Collection: Earth and Ink #1-3

The “Ink” series sprouted from my exploration of Chinese calligraphy techniques applied to achieve movement and balance. In the darkness of black sumi ink strokes, I felt the power and depth of erasure and decided to use it to practice letting go. Similar to the humble process in which Tibetan monks disperse a sand mandala that was meticulously made over long hours and days, creating a full painting before slathering black ink over it, or carving away bits of the underlying work is a reminder for myself that no matter the labor, pride, attachment, or sense of self I feel in bringing a scene into existence, I must remember it can and will become nothing, as it started. The image of the painting that exists in full underneath the ink will only be made available to the buyer.
